Doc is a Green Winged Macaw of indeterminate age. I think he is a fairly young bird. He came to us by way of a woman in Philadelphia that had fostered quite a few birds from 9/11. Doc was in an apartment building in Building in Battery Park, near the World Trade Center, when the buildings collapsed. The apartment building he was in collapsed also and he was trapped in the building, for days.

When the building collapsed, Doc was in his cage, this is probably what saved his life. However, when the cage collapsed, it pinned his foot and he would up losing two toes on his right foot. He was terrified, when we first got him and it took a lot of love and work to build a trust relationship with him.

Now my husband and I line up, first thing in the morning, to say, "Good Morning Doc" and give him morning kissies.

He was moved into a cage on February 28 and is loving it. Now he can get on the bottom and torment my house cats. Doc is a love and a treasure. We are so glad to have him in our lives.

Doc was one of the birds lost during a storm in March 2004.
