A Cockatoo
By Tammy Murphy
You say you
want a parrot. Let us see if this is true.
You say you want a big white bird, They call us Cockatoos.
We come in many sizes. Personalities too. Before you take me home today,
Please let me talk to you.
I know you see
my beauty, and the love I hold inside,
There's something I must tell you, It's something I can't hide.
Too many people
buy me, then much to their surprise.
When they hear me calling; They hold their ears and shut their eyes.
Then they just ignore me, I don't have much to do.
Then they say they're sorry. They don't want a Cockatoo.
But if you
really love me. Let me tell you what to do.
I have a lot of love to give and I want to share with you.
Don't shut me in, Please let me out. Talk to me, But please don't shout.
This is my
voice, I cannot change. I'm built to be free,
To roam the range.
I sometimes can be quiet,
This I surely know. But you must guide and nurture me,
and give me time to grow.
If I still
come home with you. It's up to you to see.
I need a lot of freedom to Release my energy.
Now I've said
these things to you.
Do you still want a Cockatoo?
You say you
have considered, what you have just been told.
You say you are committed. You say you know I'm bold.
So let's go
home together, and you will quickly see.
I have a lot of love to give. Thank you for loving me.
You never will
regret it. This we know is true.
Because you now; share your life;
With A regal Cockatoo.
