Dr. Bongiorno and his partner, Dr. Sam Ristich look after my pet birds and my Golden Retrievers. they are both very caring vets who take their time with their patients. They answer all questions and let you knw what options are available for different treatments. last winter we successfully treated an Eclectus for Aspergillosis and she is going great now, in no small part thanks to Dr. Bongiorno.

Dr. Byron De la Navarre

2752 West Lawrence Avenue
Chicago, IL 60625office phone # 773 - 878 - 8002
Byron is younger, but has a LOT of experience with birds and exotics. He is the only bird doctor at this mostly dog and cat practice. I have enjoyed this because it means that there is no threat of being baounced around and seeing a different doctor each time.
I have been thrilled with the level of care we (my birds) have received. Byron is excellent at listening and he has done so much to educate me about avian health and anatomy. He was with me through the terminal illness of my first bird. He and his staff are compassionate and caring.
He also often staffs the city's emergency clinic. I think that says something for him and his practice that, as much as my departed darling had to visit, she was always glad to see him.

While I think this whole practice is great, we see Dr. Sakas...and he's wonderful! You can tell he really cares and there's always lots of information on everything there.

Dr. Gibbons is an EXCELLENT doctor and he has a very gentle way with all of my animals. He has seen all of my birds and he always takes a few minutes, in the beginning, to say "hello" to them and tries to reduce stress during the exam. They seem to be less stressed out, following the trip, than with my previous veterinarian. Dr. Gibbons is very approachable and explains everything to me so I can understand it. Dr. Gibbons has a very compassionate nature and I have always felt that he has provided the best avian medicine available. I have been going there for 3 years now, and I am satisfied with the practice, as a whole.
I have also seen Dr. Sue Horton, on occasion, and she has also been a very good doctor, with my birds, practicing the same excellent standard of avian medicine that I have come to know, and expect, from Dr. Gibbons. It feels great knowing that I have a clinic, close by, that I can trust with my "babies".

Ken is an excellent avian vet. He is very caring and very knowledgeable. I have dealt with Ken on an emergency basis and on a routine basis. To my knowledge, he is the ONLY board-certified avian vet in the entire state of ILLINOIS. He also teaches classes for new bird owners (particularly the larger species, i.e. Macaws, Cockatoos, Greys, Amazons, etc.)The thing I really like about Ken is that he never makes you feel rushed. He is willing to talk and answer questions. He is also willing to do late-night emergency calls. I have even talked to bird owners from the Chicago area that will ONLY bring their birds to Dr. Welle.

There are very excellent bird doctors here. Dr. Scott McDonald worked at Brookefield Zoo for 7 years prior to coming here. Dr. Nye is also excellent. They have a tremendous amount of experience with birds and exotics and really know their stuff! They have a great support staff and lab premises on site also. They are wonderful!
