Her knowledge and experience are second to none. I attended many of her lectures on avian topics in the last two years and could not help but be impressed. She is the only doctor that I feel comfortable treating my two umbrella cockatoos. Dr. Hoefer's practice is limited to avian and exotic pets and is in a 24 hour facility. We just got a new Citron Cockatoo baby and went to a vet recommended by our local bird club members...this is in the Albany, NY area. Dr. Lucas is an avian specialist and she was wonderful with "Chicklet".

We took our 6 year old Severe Macaw, Phoenix in with a yeast infection. Dr. Lucas flushed his crop and provided medication that cleared up the problem. She was not only knowledgeable, but had an excellent rapport with Phoenix. We went back later that week to get annual physicals for our 5 year old Blue-Gold Macaw, Bridget, our 6 year old African Grey, Ghost and our 6 year old Cockitiel, Maui. It was a 3 hour round-trip, but well worth it.

Dr. Dee has been seeing avian patients from parakeets to finches to macaws for as long as I have known her (10+ years) and probably longer. The hospital is also equipped to handle very sick birds. She has avian ICU units and a competent staff who are knowledgable in avian care as well. Dr. Dee also owns a cockatoo who she takes to schools and lectures on veterinary medicine, and she has a cockatiel as well. She is dedicated to continuing educxation. She has also seen blue jays, chickens and ducks from time to time. She has chickens herself and will be glad to give you fresh eggs for free. She is kind compassionate and thorough, I would highly recommend her.
