Me
How Can I Help You?

My goal is to help bird owners have a better understanding of their feathered companions, and to provide education and information that will help prevent, recognize and solve behavior problems.

Phone consultations are $30 per hour, payable by credit card or check through PayPal. Short follow ups via phone or email are included. Group lectures are available, too. Home visits are limited to the Northwest Florida area and the cost is based on location.

To schedule a consult, call 850-683-9696 between 9am and 8pm Central Time. Leave a message with your phone number and the time zone you're calling from if you get my voice mail. Once you have your appointment scheduled, you can pay through Pay Pal, using a credit card, debit card or echeck, or I can bill you through Pay Pal after your session.
My Education
Herrin High School, Herrin, Illinois

Bachelor of Arts Degree, psychology, Southern Illinois University

Masters of Science in Education, health education, Southern Illinois University

My Experience
I'm IAABC Certified
Certified member of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants

American Council on Exercise
I started behavior consulting in 1993, have spoken to bird clubs all over the U.S., and have published articles in pet-related magazines and newspapers, including Bird Talk (much of my published works appear under my maiden name, Kim Wiggins). I continue to publish and serve on the Panel of Experts for Toolady and Birdboard, as a consultant for BirdTricks and Avian Network, and am interviewed frequently for Bird Talk Magazine. I am a Certifed Animal Behavior Consultant through the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants.

Up until 1998, I bred and handfed many species of parrots, and operated my own retail bird business back in southern Illinois. Not only have I worked with individual pet owners, but I've also helped zoos and pet stores by providing assistance with animal care and environmental enrichment.

General care and behavior information for most companion animals, including ferrets and some reptiles is available, as well.

In addition to my work as a parrot behavior consultant, I teach wellness and first aid at Okaloosa-Walton College. I'm a Certified Health Education Specialist, a Certified Personal Trainer and Pilates instructor, and I teach community fitness classes. I also have an internet marketing service that includes domain name registration, website hosting and website design.

Hobbies
My husband and I are both Scuba divers, cave divers and PADI Divemasters. We also both compete in triathlons and belong to the Northwest Florida Track Club,The Emerald Coast Cyclists and The Scubaholics (I manage these club websites). We're also both trombonists in Playground Swing, a large jazz ensemble, and we are volunteers with The Boney Pony Equine Rescue Center. Some of my other interests include kite surfing, wind surfing, yoga, weight training, nutrition and ecology.

Our Pets
Kim and Mancha
We currently have 4 parrots (a blue & gold macaw, 2 Congo African greys and a green-cheeked conure), 2 cats, 4 dogs (an Australian Shepherd, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, a Great Pyrennese, and an unidentifiable mutt that looks somewhat like a shrunken Great Dane), a horse, 2 goats, 2 ferrets, an iguana, a red-footed tortoise, two red-eared sliders, 2 fire-bellied toads, and a bunch of chickens, ducks, geese and ring-necked pheasants.

We have had over the years: A skunk, a bearded dragon, a red-tailed boa, a ball python, corn snakes, box turtles, a llamma, a fox, pigs, rabbits, a chinchilla, a guinea pig, mice, peacocks, and doves. If it has four legs, feathers, or scales, I can probably talk to you about it!
