Behind the bars...

My Cage..
When I first arrived at my new home, mommy thought it would be a good idea if I stayed in my baby cage for a few weeks untill I adjusted to my new home.
I only lived in my new home for 3 weeks before mom and Aunt Les went on one of their roadtrips to Ohio. I was soo sad to be at home alone on a Sunday but, what a surprise I got when mom came through the door. Not only did I get the biggest cage I had ever seen but I got a new neighbor too. I will explain Tikki in a later page.
My new cage is a black 3 feet wide by 3 1/2 feet tall and 2 1/2 feet deep welded and powdercoated cage. It had a play gym on the top too but mom said it made me too close to the ceiling and that made me get bossy. She took that off after only 2 days.
I have 2 food dishes and a big water dish that I love to bathe in. Mom keeps a variety of pellets in my main food bowl and I find treats in the other food dish. My pelleted diet is a mix of Pretty Bird High Energy, ZuPreem fruit blend for conures, Roudybush Med, and Dried fruits that mom buys at the grocery store. In my treat dish I can usually find nuts and apple chunks. My human sister used to slip me extra treats but when I started to nip her, she gave up sharing with me.
Next door to my castle,
Is Tikki Birds castle.. and I rule his kingdom too! When mom and Aunt Les went to Ohio that Saturday afternoon, mom bought a gift for daddy. Little did mommy know that Tikki the Amazon parrot was not going to like daddy at all. Tikki has the exact same cage as me and we live side-by-side. I like it because that makes the play area twice as big, even though we still throw all the toys on the floor. Accross the walkway from our cool cages lives a cockatoo named Mindy. UGH! I wont talk much about her because she takes my toys and breaks them, and she loves to bite my tail. Tikki dont like her too much either, thats another reason Tikki is my best friend.
Inside the front door..
When you open my cage door, you will find me sitting on my swing. It is one of those concrete perch kind that are supposed to keep my nails trim, but it dont work to good. I hang out there when I am not eating. HEY! Maybe thats why my nails are not trim.. I am always eating! Just kidding. I can make it swing back and forth but after having it about a week, I got bored doin that so now I just sit. Mom hung my fav treat hide-away just out of my reach. I have figured out how to get the treats out while I am on the swing, while I hang upside down from the top of the cage, and also while I hang from the chain that holds it to the cage. I also have one of those dowel rod perches that came with the cage. Mom said that those kind of perches are bad for my feet, and thats ok by me since I hardly ever use it. The last perch I have is a manatanzia branch. i have been trying to chew it since I got it over a year ago. It still looks brand new cause it is a really hard California wood. Mom only let me keep it this long because I dont poop on it. If I poop on a perch, it usually gets washed in hot soapy water, and if I poop on it alot she throws it away because of germs. She wont tell me exactly what germs are, just that they are yucky.
Toys, Toys, and WOW! More Toys..
When mom got me home, she realized just how spoiled I was. For the past 5 weeks, I had gotten a new toy everyday and sometimes 2 toys a day. I also could distroy toys that fast or faster! She also did not realize I was smarter than I look. My toybox is on the shelf, under my living space. IT IS FULL OF NEW TOYS! She got a good deal on some unpainted baby blocks, so there is always ganna be some of them. She also has a cool Parrot Food distributor that sells quality wood, musical, rawhide, fuzzy, and also acrylic toys. You name it and he has it, or he can get it! If I can get his email addy or his web page I promise to pass it along. Anyhow, last time I broke in to my purple tote, I saw a whole load of them new Jungle talk Smart Toys. Now, I only get a new toy like that if I say a new word or do a new trick. I donno if they are worth my learning to roller skate...
Features of my spacious home..
well, I dont get to use the best ones. The cage came with a play gym that took me right up to the ceiling of moms house. I liked to be right on top of things.. Mom got a good nip one night at bedtime and I woke up the next day without the gym. Tikki didnt climb on his but it dissapeared too. Mom told me that Parrots should not be allowed at a humans eye level and never allowed over a persons head. I figure it has somethin to do with being the top birdie, but she dont let me on her shoulder and I am still the top birdie here. Well, dont tell Tikki or Mindy that, its a secret. Of course my home has a front door but it has a top door I dont use. And mom says the tray has to pull out easily for her and dad to clean. I dont have a seed skirt cause my food dishes are too high for them to work.
I just moved..
In September of 2002, I moved in with Tikki Bird. Mom decided that since I slept in my tent and Rio spent so much time on the top of the cage that she would make a few adjustments. I now sleep in Moms room next to her bed in the cage that I had as a baby, and she has Me n Tikki hangin out full time. This is col with me because we dont like the same toys and we have seperate food and water dishes.
